Debby Doyle: Sefranka
Looking for information on Peter Sefranka, born 1854 in Austria; came to the US
(Boston) in 1892. His wife Maria (Juris) born 1850 in Austria; came to the US
in 1895.

They had five children, all born in Austria, Peter, Charles, Mildred, Mary and
Dorothy.

Anyone have any information on these surnames or what part of Austria they might
be from? On the 1900 Mass. Census, their country of origin was Austria
1910 " " " Bohemia
1920 " " " Czech.

Thanks,

Debby Doyle

zlatica: Re: Sefranka
Since your ancestor put down Bohemia and then Czech than the research for the ancestral roots would take you to Czech Republic but without a name of a town even that can not be 100%.

Since you know that Peter entered thru Boston than the ship manifest might list a name of a town.

Peter but Petr in Bohemian/Czech.

Check out even the Ellis Island manifests for the name SEFRANKA and JURIS. Never know, those could be some relatives of your ancestor.
Most of the Sefrankas that passed thru EI seem to be from Hybe, Slovak Republic.

The Slovak Republic's phone site is listing S'EFRANKA, S'EFRANKO,JURIS, and JURIS'.

The Czech Republic's phone site is at :
http://phone.quick.cz

Some website to help in your search.
www.iarelative.com
www.hosmanek.com/slovak
www.csagsi.org
www.cgsi.org
www.ncsml.org
www.jiznicechy.org
http://mapy.atlas.sk for location of a town in SK
http://mapy.atlas.cz for location of a town in CZ

If your ancestor had social security numbers or was naturalized citizen than those papers you can request and they should provide a name of a town. You will have to locate that in order to proceed with the research.
