	Tami I am looking for anyone that would know my father Istvan Sipeki. He was born in 1929 on December 26th. I know he had a daughter in Hungary by the name of Piroska, I think she may have two sons. I also THINK he may have left Hungary around 1956 when he Landed in Hamilton Ontario Canada. He met and married my Mother Ruth in the early part of the 60s. They had five children together. My father passed away in July of 1996, I have never had contact with any relatives from Hungary, he did speak of his daughter and her children but never giving us much information about them. I have two passport books of my fathers but I do not speak any Hungarian so It is very hard for me to interpret it. I also THINK my fathers first wifes name was Piroska Kovacs? I am not sure if that was her name, It was a name in his passport book. I will try my best to type out what it says.. Hazastarsa neve..Kovacs Piroska. I am not sure what that means? I have another small book of his , It is red and says MAGYAR ONKENTES HONVEDELMI SZOVETSEG? Again I am not sure what that means nor can I understand anything written in it. The one bad thing is he never taught us to speak Hungarian. If you have any information on him or his family please email me at tmcfarlane -a-t- cogeco.ca -d-o-t- I am only kooking to find out who he was as a young man, I never really had a bond with him and I feel like I have missed out on what I should have known, He was a very interverted man who didnt spend much time with us kids, and did not talk much about his past. 	Helper I have some idea where you can look for information. One of the name you have in the red book is something to do with the hungarian airforce back in the fifties. You can start Tapolca city, ther was the this place mentioned in the red book. Your father might had political reasons not to talk about his past, like for many others. At that time passports were RED, male and female.When they came to Canada they either went to Toronto or Hamilton. If they went to Hamilton,which most did, they were told to, go to St. Stephen`s Hungarian RC Church. The Priest sent them to live in the old army barricks at Eastwood park, until they found their own living arrangments. 	Álmos Házastársa means his spouse's name. The"Magyar Önkéntes Honvédelmi Szövetség" means "The Hungarian Voluntary Defence Association", a military,paramilitary sport organization sponsored by the Communist Party. That is why he had a red book. I don't remember the passport, since many people escaped without one. Any way they could and ended up in refuge camps first before they went to certain countries , like Canada and others.He perhaps was a communist. That is a very good reason not to talk about his past. He had something to hide or just wanted a new beginning burning all the bridges. You can do your own research on that Paramilitary Association. They had a role during the freedom fighting in 1956.If you decide to learn more about what really happened in Hungary in the fifties, you might understand your father's behaivor much better. 	Tami: Thank you Thank you so much for the information you have provided me with. I am now further ahead in my search then I ever was. I do have one more question. Can you tell me where I can go to have hungarian translated to english. I have a paper of my Dads It was in french and I found a website that translated it for me. I found out it was a Family Mutual Insurance company of Valenciennes? I am not sure what it means, BUT I do know he was in a french speaking country in 1957. Also the book that was from the Hungarian Voluntary Defence Association. It has little squares in it and two of those squares have stickers in them. I would like to have that translated into English. 	Álmos: Re: Thank you I am sure there are hungarian lawyers in your area who can translate for you. Do you know anybody in the nearest hungarian community? There must be lot of 1956's around you who still remember those events very well. Somebody suggested that church in Hamilton.I am positive you have a help from somebody there. 	Kálmán: Re: Thank you If i am not mistaking, the MÖHOSZ (Hungarian Voluntary Defence Association)center was in Debrecen City back in the fifties. Today they are called something else.MRSZ?! Their e-mail adress is: akd -a-t- freemail -d-o-t- hu I am sure they speak English today. Perhaps there is a number in that book? Can you scan the pages and send it to them? 	gitta eva sipeki: tami u found ur relatives! Hi i hope u will receive my mail!I am married with ur cousin Andras Sipeki,his father(Andras Sipeki) was the brother of ur dad.We was in Canada in 1999 and i tryed to take up contact with ur family in Hamilton,till today we received no answer .Mail me back please then i will try to help u to take up the connection with the whole family.Am sorry to tell u,that ur uncle Andras is too passed in 1996,but still living ur aunt Mancika(margit),ur oncle Jozsi and Sandor as well ur sister Piroska ,as i know shes divorced.None of them speak english,sorry.waiting for replai. Are any of my Dads close family members (brothers) ect still alive. It is so sad and I am so over come with happiness right now. I don't no any of my dads brothers names. Like I had said my dad was very quiet about his life. Thank you so much for emailing me. I cannot tell you how happy it makes me. Do you still live in Hungary, I want to know so much I do not know where to start. I would love to contact Piri, I am not even sure she knows our dad passed. Did you know my dad? 	kezdi: Re: tami u found ur relatives! Congratulations, I noticed the Sipeki name, and thought to mention, that went to high school in Budapest with a Sipeki Ildiko in the early sixties. Anyway, I did a search on MÖHOSZ, not to be mixed up with MOHOSZ which is a Hung. fishing org'n, and surprisingly directed me to one of my favorite Hung. History site, The Corvinus Library: http://www.hungarian-history.hu/lib/revolt/rev10.htm This particular page, in the first interview in Vienna, talks about the 1956 Revolution, how students got small caliber guns from the sporting organization MÖHOSZ.
