Siegrid: Re: Sivulka
Hello,

I'm researching the JURASZKO surname. Your message mentions a similar sounding surname of YURASKO. Maybe there is a connection. Do you have any info on the origins of this name?

Thank you,

Siegrid

David Baloga: Re: Sivulka
I noticed that you were searching for the names YURASKO and HORBALY, among other surnames. I have both names in my family tree on my father's side. My great grandmother Joanna Jurasko (pronounced Yurasko) was from the Spis region around Kluknava parish, near the Saris region. Another great grandmother, Anna Harbaly / Horbaly was from Domanovce, also in the Spis region. Is "Carpathian Hillbilly" a reference to the surname HORBALY which essentially means "from the hills"? Please feel free to write me directly at David1Law -a-t- aol -d-o-t- com

Best regards,
David

JDuranko: Re: Sivulka
I'm a Duranko, I talked to a girl who shares our last name who is from Bratislava she talked to her great-grandfather and he said there were ONLY two groups of Duranko's a while back, they were from Torysky, and one group stayed in Czechoslovakia and the other came to America. I also read somewhere else that the Durankos came from Torysky.

I don't know the validity of this information, please let me know what you know!

Carpathian Hillbilly: Re: Sivulka
Thanks!
All of my connections are from Kamienka, SOme are now living in Johnstown & Cleveland. I had heard that Duranko and Duracinsky are the same name, just regional differences in the spelling, which I can neither confirm or deny.
If you have Duranko family from Kamienka, chances are we connect somewhere.

mjm: Re: Duranko
I am related to the Billiks of Fayette County, PA. Martha Chervinsky (original Cservinsky) was married to Tony Billik. They migrated to Detroit, Michigan but are buried in Brownsivlle, PA. Both originally from the Carpathian town of Kamienka (known as Kamjonka in the Rusyn language). I have a photo of the three Billick brothers in Edeborn, PA -- George, Vasil and Tony. They had another brother Michael in Cleveland and a sister Anna Yedinak in Dunmore, PA.

KamienkaK: Re: Duranko
I believe we are naming the same people. When did Martha and Tony go to Detroit? All the details relate to our family heritage - Rusyn. Could you send me photos to the following address: rockymt1 -a-t- verizon -d-o-t- net

I am still looking for Emma's family from Rector,
PA. Finding more Cservinsky family would be
wonderful. KA
