David: Sotkovszky = Schotkosky in France ?
Hello !
My name is Schotkosky. I am french. Our genealogy research led us to my hungarian (?) ancestor : Paul Schotkosky. He came to France in 1809 as captive from the Wagram battle between Napoleon and the austrian-hungarian army.
Then he got married, had 7 chidren at the top of our genealogy tree.
On the registration document dated 1809, his living place is called "Petervachy". That is the way the administration officer wrote it in french. This can correspond to several cities : Petervasara, Petrovaradin,...
Could you help me on finding some information about Paul ? And tell me if people named Sotkovszky and living in Hungary are cousins ?
Thanks for your help.
David

Hungary's phone book: www.magyartelekom.hu/fooldal.vm
SOTKOVSZKY in Pomaz, Ozd and Tordas.
Possibly some Slavic roots, ending SKY.
S^OTKOVSKY shows up in Slovak Republic's phone book.
www.zoznamst.sk and also in Czech Republic's http://phone.quick.cz
In Poland: SOTKOWSKI, SZOTKOWSKI, and SZCZOTKOWSKI.
www.herby.com.pl
An ALL site for research in Slovakia:
www.iabsi.com/gen/public
The ending "vachy" could be vlachy: Spisske Vlachy, Vlachy.
Petervagasa, Saros megye, Hungary now Petrovce, Saris region, Slovakia.

I suggest that Petervachy is probably Petrovacz in Bacs-Bodrog megye, later named Petrocz, and now Backi Petrovac, Serbia.
