Dieter: Austrian/Canadian branch
I've always been interested in my grandfather's (Josef Stefely) side of the family, although I know little because he was orphaned as a child.

I have been told that Josef was born 22.01.1915 in Stein am Aiger and that he grew up in Zueberbach, in Niederoesterreich, close to the Austrian border with Hungary.

I have been unable to confirm whether his father (my great-grandfather) was named Wagner (sic?) Stefely.

My connetion is through my father, Gerhard Stefely.

If you are aware of any connections, I would love to hear from you!

Radix: Re: Austrian/Canadian branch
Hello Dieter,

Little info on the place names you mentioned.

"Stein am Aiger" could easily be Steinamanger. This is the German name of the Hungarian city Szombathely, close to the Austrian-Hungarian border.

Zueberbach could easily be Zuberbach. This village is now in the Federal Republic ("Province"): Burgenland Austria, and was attached to the neighboring settlement, Weiden bei Rechnitz. Zuberbach's Hungarian name was Szabar.

Szombathely (Steinamanger) and Zuberbach are not far from one another: http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?country=AT&city=Zuberbach

Hope this helps.
