Kathy B: Szalay, Karoly

I am searching for information about my husband's great grandfather's second marriage. Karoly was born 12/16/1859 in Sarospatak Hungary and died 6/23/1938 in Lajosmizse Hungary. He was married to Horvath Gizella 7/4/1887. We believe they were divorced around 1893. He married a woman by the name of Fay Lenka, date unknown. We believe they had a son named Gyorgy. I would appreciate any information on this family. Thank you.

Hello,
Tudok Magyarul beszelni de nem erosen.

Keresek Informaciot a ded Nagypapamrol Szalay Lajos aki Szabadkan szulettet(nem tudom mikor).Nem tudom a szulei neve vagy ha volt Lajos nak testver. A felesege volt Kovacsics Etel aki (aszt hiszem) Bunyevacon szulettet es volt nekik 5 gyerek, Geza, Marton, Bela, Aranka,es Joszef.
Ha valaki tudd valamit roluk, nagyon szepen kerem hogy valaszolyanak.
Az hogy Angliaban szulettem 1956 utan, itt nagyon nehez megy talalni informaciot a rokonokrol.

Tisztelt Segítőtársak !

Egy volt tanyai iskola történetének feldolgozásához - ami Jászárokszállás külterületén működött 1925-1966 között -keresem azt aki bármit tud Szalay Emmáról. Vitéz Bakos Dénes tanító felesége volt. 1923 előtt Velencén éltek 11 évig, majd Jászárokszálláson telepedtek le. Nem tudom, hogy meddig laktak itt és utána hová kerültek. Bakos Dénes Gyergyóremetén született és Kolozsváron szerzett tanítói oklevelet. Várom és köszönöm az információkat. Mné

Szalay: Öcs, Eöts, Veszprém megye

Érdeklődöm a Veszprém megyei Öcs (Eöcs, Eöts, Öts) községből származó családok iránt. A feudális korban a falut kisbirtokos nemes családok lakták (Bóday, Antal, Szalay,Kutas stb.). A falu egyik kisnemesi lakóháza a veszprémi Laczkovics Múzeumban rekonstruált formában megtekinthető. A falu a közismert Művészetek Völgye fesztivál egyik helyszíne. Az öcsi (eötsi, eöcsi) Szalay család leszármazottai a XIX-XX. században Nemesgulács községben és Káptalantóti határában, Rizapuszta nevű birtokon gazdálkodtak.

I am looking for relatives. We came to Canada in 1956/1957 from the Kövezsd/Lozs/Cenk area. My father's name is Janos
(born 1914) married to Viktoria Babos (1912 - 1984)My father's father was Szalai or Szalay Janos (no dates) married to Nemeth Erzébeth (1896-1959)His brother Ístvan (1917-1980)was married to Toth Maria. He had a half-brother Kardos Jozsef (1925-1995) married to Modli Marta with 2 children Gabor (1958) and Zsu Zsa (1959) My mother's father was Babos Geza (no dates) married to Török Anna (no dates) She had a sister Natália (1910 - 1945)married to Horvath Géza (no dates) and had two children one of which is Otto (1938 - 2002) My siblings are: Klára (Artner Jozsefné),Janos jr, Ferenc, Peter Paul,
Georg, Natália,Otto, and Tibor. I was never told about any relatives and it has been extremely difficult to even find out the names of my grandparents. Any help would be appreciated. I can write in Hungarian a bit and if I have to, I will. Thanx for any help.

Yes I have and the records go to 1895 and the civil records only to 1911. My parents were born later and the search in the phonebook is useless because I do not know who is a relative and who isn't....unless I try everybody. But, thank-you very much for the suggestions. It's been more than I've been able to find on my own.

You're welcome.
You might try posting on Hungary's Ancestry and Genforum board. Hopefully someone on the board will be able to tell you where to go. You might try the church your father was baptized in. You might want to send a letter to the Mayor of the town.
I did not look in the phone book as to how many of SZALAY/I are there but if not many, you might consider sending a letter in Hungarian include a photo of your parents and an e-mail address and see what comes back to you.

You see, that's the problem...I have absolutely nothing...no letters, papers, pictures, nothing... except my parent's names and their parent's. I cannot be certain of their birthdates, because just recently, there's been a discrepancy. So, I'm in the process of getting copies of our landed immigrant papers from Ottawa archives, and hopefully, this will help. I spend hours on the computer and get nothing but frustrated. I keep trying though, and I'm now attempting to find the address of the churches in the area in hopes of contacting them. It's a long, slow process and I've been at it for a long time before I found this site!! Thanx again for taking an interest.

Hi! Every ppl here know Károly Szalay! He is a big writer. I have a book what he wrote whit is hand that is why i started looking after him. Maybe i can find his son/daughter. This is his dairy, from 4. aug. 1884 till 1921. ON the last page: "Im 62 years old and i hate life..." I saw you wrote here so many years ago, hope we can find each other.
