Stef: Surname Szefcsik

I have recently had my Slovakia ancestors, as well as family still living there researched. A dream come true for me! There were a couple different spellings for my father's family surname. Years ago it was SEVCSIK, presently spelled SEVCIK in Slovakia. The village name is GERLACHOV in SARIS COUNTY, Slovak Republic. When my grandparents emigrated to the USA (PA) in 1907 they Americanized the name to be spelled as SEFCHICK.

The HUNGARIAN spelling for surname SEVCIK is presently spelled as SZEFCSIK. I was just curious if I have any family left in Hungary. When I had my Slovakia research done, it was only limited to Slovakia as that country is "the root" of my father's ancestry. I was told that years ago I did have family in Hungary as well as other countries.

STEF: SURNAMES SEVCSIK and SEVCIK

Hello from USA! I'm updating an earlier post because I JUST received more VALID information. My previous post on this site was done on July 28, 2003 regarding surname SZEFCSIK. It has been brought to my attention that I DO have family in the BUDAPEST area, possible other areas also, who PRESENTLY use the surnames SEVCSIK and SEVCIK. I was SO surprised! As I have said in my previos post, my family "roots" using BOTH of these surnames is a small village in the SLOVAK REPUBLIC named GERLACHOV in SARIS COUNTY. Százhalombatta is a city south of Budapest on the banks of the Duna(Danube) river.

There is 6 Sefcsik on MATAV phone directory for Százhalombatta. Also there are many more in other places.Look it up, something might click in your head.

Evelyne: SEFCSIK Family

I am interested in genealogy and I would be grateful if somebody could give me information about SEFCSIK family. My children'grand father, Joseph SEFCSIK was born in Budapest around 1910. He met my husband's mother in France; unfortunately, he died in June 1943, a few days after his son was born (I don't know in which country, France or Hungary?). I think he had brothers; one of them moved to America.
