| verus: Re: my surname | Hi!
The founder of the kindergarten at Pécs, Hungary, József Szigriszt is my great great great grandfather too!
That's the building of it (found this picture on the net).
My great grandfather changed his name from Szigriszt to Uri, later Ury. His reason, as far as I know, is that the family originated from a Kanton in Switzerland called Uri, during the reign of Maria Theresa in the 18. century.
His grandfather, József Szigriszt, who founded the kindergarten had a big house in Pécs, I think they used to be a wealthy family, with a roofed bowling alley and a tennis court - this is past now ofc.
Also, the same family founded the singing club in Pécs, and stood a cross in Mecsek (a mountain near Pécs).
I have to add, Szigriszt doesn't sound as a hungarian name (for me, and I am Hungarian). Maybe german, or german-speaking swiss?
Regards,
