My family migrated to the U.S. in the early 1900's I grew up in the Detroit, Michigan area. My great grandfather was Frank (Francoska) Tittjung, he was married to Theresa Mateiz. His son Joseph, born March 19, 1889 was my grandfather. Supposeable, they migrated from Kereng, Hungary. I often asked my grandfather for information about his European family, but as far as he was concerned, life began in America. I would love to hear from you.

Kurt: Titjungs from Germany, Kernie and Croatia
I believe the Titjungs came to Hungary during the great Swaben Trek, Yes the place he was from, probably was "Kernie /Kerney", This I believe is in the Batschka in todays Serbia - Montenegro, In or close to what is known as Vojvidina, which is east of the Danube River. Other Titjung members moved from Kerney to Croatia (accross the Danube) Near Lovas Tompojeci and Orolik (South of Vukovar/Sotin).
I think he may have went to Orolik, before going to the States, if theat is the Same FRANK? We have at least 5 Titjung family researchers on line and I believe they are all related some how. Write my addy, or go the Sotin Site.
Give me some more Data O.K.?

kurt: Re: help needed
Hello Anne and Julie,
Yes, they must have been close at one time. I believe the Chicago Titjung family stayed in contact with a "Ament" family member who was a catholic Priest in Austria and his brother who was a priest in Zagreb, untill about the 1960's. He is in his in his seventies now.
Gabriel Titjung moved from Kernie in the Batschka to Tompojevci in Croatia about the same time as the Amend / Ament family moved there in around 1850 or so. He had a large family Most if not all the Titjungs around that area south of Vukovar are closly related.

The Titjungs from Osijek were probably family from Gabriels brother or a cousin from Kernie. Though I am not real sure of that, I am pretty sure they are still in Wisconsin.

Does anyone have a Mathew Titjung, I am sure he was from the same family just not sure from who?
Photo of Mathew TITJUNG
http://www.dvhh.org/sotting/registry/kurt/index.htm

My great Uncle lived at 10 and Hoover in Warren and had TITJUNG cousins living a couple blocks away. And I am not sure that he knew it, But I think he had too... as he frquented the Carpathian Hall / Roths Barn (a Donauschwaben Club) at 9 mile and Vandyke, now at in Sterling Heights MI. As I am a member today also are some of the Titjung family.

Kurt: we have corresponded before. Who is your relative who lives in Warren? I have a picture of my grandfather at the original Carpathian Club in Detroit. I remember as a child going there on Sundays, Grandfather who be playing cards, and my step grandmother playing bingo in the back room. They had a Christmas party for kids, and I remember going there for the party, unfortunately I have a dimple, and all these old ladies would affectionately "pinch" it and tell me that the angels gave it to me before I was born, ya right! Hello Anne,
My great uncle Josef AMENT, My grandfather Anton Ament also lived in Warren both families frequented the Carpathia Club. Both are deceased, but I still have family in Warren, I live down the street from the Sterling Heights club now. I am not sure what all Josef and and Anton did there, but I thought they played something called Bunko. I am not sure what that was/ is but maybe its the same thing as Bingo?
this is Josef

I was hoping that the Carpathia Club would post a more recent History of the place, even though I find the old History very interesting.

Kurt: Titjungs from Orolik not Crolik
Hello Anne,
I finally found your family site, for some reason it doesn't come up easy on the other search engines.
Its at:
http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/m/c/d/Anne-L-Mcdaniel/WEBSITE-0001/UHP-0104.html

I am not sure where the data you have on your family, came from........ but, I believe there is a transcription problem. I thought we had discussed this before.
The town that Frank was in was Orolik not Crolik.......
NO SUCH VILLAGE AS CROLIK....... ;-)
----------------------------------------------
Orolik which is in Croatia (then also Austria-Hungary), also after WW1 it became part of what we know as Yugoslavia.
This Branch of the Titjung family came from Tompojevci and Fillipowa before that. Probably between 1850-1960 they had made the move.
Gabriel Tittjung was born in Fillipowa, (in the Batschka) then moved to Tompojevci, (Across the Danube River). Which is very near Orolik (http://www.jewishgen.org/ShtetlSeeker/LocTown.asp)
and very near Lowas / Lovas which your other relatives were from. My Sotting / (Sotin Site) is very much next door to Tompojevci. Tompojevci / Sotin area is were the Titjungs and the Aments became a family also the Oswalds and the Titjungs were together there. I believe that Mathais familiy are also in the Sotin records.
See much like here in the old days there was a Main Church, and the Priest or his assistant would go to different towns for the services ect. So the Tompojevci and a couple neighboring villages records before about 1910 where also kept in Sotin.
Check Your data I think some of the dates may have an error also. If You would like me to view your data to get you back on track, I can in time, E-mail me personally "from" the Sotin Site. http://www.dvhh.org/sotting/

I hope this helps.

Have a very Merry Christmas!

Orolik is next to Berak which is in the Municipality of Tompojevci

Kurt

kurt: Frank Titjung of OROLIK m. Anna Petro of Lovas
Hello again,
If you are wanting to write the Catholic Church in Lovas or Orolik,
Here are the address's. It's recomended to send some cash with the look up request. Maybe a donation to the church or the priest. Be specific to where your contribution goes as the priest who is actually taking the time to do the look up, will not take the donation for himself unless the donor requests it. In the following address's you will see the postal (Zip) code before the town. (The European way)

For Orolik:
Župa Mučeništva svetog Ivana Krstitelja
Tomušić Marko, žk
Orolička 7, Berak
32243 Orolik
Hrvatska

For Lovas:
Župa Svetog Mihaela, arkanđela
Marić Stipo, žk
Kralja Tomislava 16
32237 Lovas
Hrvatska

If you are wanting to learn more about the Donauschwaben history of the area (county of VUKOVARSKO-SRIJEMSKA) try the German Genealogy site at:
http://www.genealogienetz.de/reg/ESE/dssyrmi.html

If you want to view some pictures of the municipality (Općina) of Lovas or want to read the history in Croatian try:
http://www.lovas.hr/

Or read in Croatian the history of Orolik in the Municipality (Općina) of Stari Jankovci
try:
http://www.bosut.net/jankovci/orolik.php
The last photo on the bottom of the page at: www.bosut.net/jankovci/ is the village of Orolik

Hilde Tittjung: Re: help needed

Hilde Tittjung: Re: help needed

1) Anton TITJUNG b. Okt 20 1856 in Kernei Antun TITJUNG m. Eva GARTNER 1-1)Katarina TITJUNG
1-2) Martin TITJUNG
1-3) Julianna TITJUNG

2) Anna TITJUNG 20 b. über 1857 in Kernie m. Michael AMENT 24 1877
2-1) Jacob AMENT
2-2) Gjuro AMENT
2-3) Liza AMENT
2-4) Josef Ament
2-5) Eva AMENT

3)Johann TITJUNG
4)Maria TITJUNG
5)KatharinaTITJUNG
6)Christian TITJUNG vermutlich d. junges
7)Adumus TITJUNG Datum von Birth:Feb. 2 1869
8)Josephus TITJUNG b. Geburtsdatum: November 3 1872 (Sotin Hinweis: Line:)in Haus #20 Tompojevci Godparents:Adam MAYER coll.

Anmerkung: Gabriel TITJUNG später verschoben auf Vinkovci sein Sohn Adam und Frau Anna Titjung verschoben auf Chicago, USA. Einige andere Familie Mitglieder (AMENT Vetter) verschoben auf Detroit, Ohio und Florida
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
Erdut ist übrigens 22.4 von Orolik /Orlik 22 Meilen von Jarmina 21 Meilen entfernt von Vinkovci, Tompojevci und Lovas und 19 Meilen entfernt von: Kernei = Krnjaja, Kljaji?evo, Kernyaja, Kernya, Kerény

Hilde Tittjung: Re: help needed
Hallo Kurt,

P.S. Ich finde Du schreibst sehr gut in Deutsch.

Hallo schicken Hilde,
Bester Respekt

kurt: Re: Titjungs from Germany, Kernie and Croatia
Hello Ann,
Anna Galauner wife of Josef Tittyung was probably from Sotin/Tompojevci and is related to My Galauners also spelled Kalauner / Kallner. They came from Obrovac before that Millitics and had family in Filipowa. We have just found out that they originated in St. Anna, Banat but they must have moved to a unknown, village in the Banat when they arrived from Germany in the 1700's. So were missing a village yet, they may have been from Mercydorf then moved to Unknown Village.

Backer is also a Sotin name.
