Traci

Hungary's phone site is at :
www.matav.hu/english/index.html

www.rat.de/kuijsten/navigator

You need to locate a name of a town in order to proceed with the research. Take a look in Ellis Island website for some clues.

Traci

6 UFHOLCZs passed thru Ellis Island. Some were from Monosztorszeg and some from Cservenka.
The town of Monostorszeg and Cservenka is in Bacs-Bodrog megye and at present in Yugoslavia.
The old 1910 Hungarian megye map is at :

Julie Ufholtz White: Re: looking for family
I belong to George Joseph Ufholtz born in Horicon, Wisconsin. His parents came to America from Austria, Hungary. Father was born in Monosturszeg, Bach Bodrog, Hungary and came to America 1907 on the USS Pannonia.
If you have any info to share, please do so.

Adam John Ufholcz: Re: looking for family
HI JULIE- My father also came from Monostrurszeg Hungary about the same time 1907 his name was yohaan Ufholcz-I found a few relatives on the east coast- my research looking for ufholczs has made me believe that this name is extremely rare- unless some ufholczs have change their name to ufholtz. my dad told me some did. Incidentally i recieved a e-mail from a ufholtz family from canada some time ago. they were not related to me. If you want more info. please e- mail me.

Julie White: Re: looking for family
Monosturszeg, Bach Bodrog, Hungary is where my grandparents came from. I have copies of the parish records that show their marriage and the baptisms of their children born in Hungary

Julie White: Re: looking for family
I am sorry to get back to you so late, but my husband and I were serving a mission for our church and now we are back home.
Please send me your e-mail address so I can get what info you have.
Yes, my grandfather's name was written as Ufholtz when he came through Ellis Island, and I think it was common for the person in charge to spell the names the way they heard them not how they were actually spelled.
Thanks,
Julie White
p.s. I know that there are a lot of families by the name of Ufholz who live in the Cleveland, Ohio areqa, but I don't think they are mine, but it will be worth looking into. I am not sure how to check into this, but I will see what I can do and maybe you would like to do the same.
