jumling
Based on data under elisisland.org I am sure Umlings migrated to USA from Hu.
Also based on translations found on www believe original migrant returned to Hu to live out final days.

Any of you folks having the rare Umling name feel free to chime in.
Plenty of history to discover.

jumling: Re: Umling in Germany
Yes this is true, however is my understanding German Umlings put American Umling in Jail during war.
Do not think we have much in common except a last name.
Real roots are Hungary/Rumania.

rainbow: Re: Umling in Germany
We are the American Umlings in Maryland. There are a number of Umlings here who are related to Johann Umling from Baassen, Transylvania. Johann's American born son, John Umling was (allegedly) placed in a German detention camp during WWI after a disagreement of some form with other family members. He escaped from the detention camp and emmigrated to America in 1924, where he was born in 1902. All of us here in America are descendants of him. We have re-established contact with the Umlings in Germany who are descendants of Johann's father (Michael Umling) and Johann's son, John Umling. We have genealogical information to share and know of a number of other Umlings, some of whom emmigrated to or spent time in America in the late 1800's. We would like to tie them all together. If you want to share information, please contact us.

kiss margit: Re: Umling in Germany
Dear Sir,

I am preparing an exhibition at Museum of Ethnography in Budapest about the art works and handicrafts made by the senior Lörinc Umling, his sons, the junior Lörinc and János Umling, and their sons, Mihály, András and Sámuel Umling who were joiners. I have collected their biographical data from Protestant registers of births. They lived in Szászkézd, Transylvania the 18th and 19th centuries.
If the Umlings you have information about are in anyway connected to these persons I would like to exchange my data with yours. Please contact me (mkiss -a-t- neprajz.hu).

Thanks -d-o-t-

Best wishes,
