Would have been nice if you would have shared the name of a town of your ancestor. Much easier to give you websites. To me the name seems like it might have Slavic roots. No W in Slovak, Czech or Croatian alphabet but W was used because it makes the sound of a Slavic V.

10 VITKOVICSs passed thru EI and there is Anna and Antal. They have that they are from Hornya which is Horna, Slovak Republic.

Sorry about not posting more info. Anton Michael Vitkovics and Anna Vitkovics are my great grandfather and great grandmother(on my father side). Anton was born on May 30, 1859 in Homonna, Zemplen, Hungary. Anna born on May 13, 1864 in Hornya, Szobrancz, Ungvariensis, Hungary. They were married on May 11, 1885 and moved to the US in Collinsville, Connecticut in 1888. They did travel back and forth a bit. Anyway, I'm looking for the locations now and then of where Anna and Anton/Antal were born ...meaning maps ..which you provided me with some..thank you. I'm just looking for any more information on my family. Witkovic is not a popular name in the USA, I would like to know my family history.

The old 1910 Hungarian megye map is at :
http://lazarus.elte.hu/hun/maps/1910 click on Zemplen
The town of Homonna is now Humenne, Slovak Republic.
http://mapy.atlas.sk for locating a town in SK.
Hornya is Horna and Szobrancz is Sobrance in SK (in the old Ung megye).
No W in Slovak alphabet but the W makes the Slovak V sound.
VITKOVICS is a Hungarian grammar.
