Did you check the LDS-Mormons site? It is listing church records of Satoraljaujhely. You can order them and gather ancestral information.

genevieve: Re: Weinberger
Hello Scott,

I have an ancestor from Papa, surnamed Szollosi, born in 1886, who apparently changed her name from Weinberger. Both names have similar connotations, and the changed occurred before her marriage, so I wonder if it represented an attempt to Magyarize her name. She married a man who came from Bereg County, now in the Ukraine. I wonder, too, whether the Catholic tradition was relatively new in that family.

Rutika: Moshe Weinberger, Leopold Weinberger, Judit Ickovics
I am the daughter of Leopold Weinberger, born 1912 in Ungvar (Uzhorod) and Judit Ickovics born 1916 in Alsoszinever. Both these places are currently in the Ukraine. I am desparate to know more about the Ickovics and Weinberger families as both my parents are deceased and I have virtually no information. Most of my father's family perished in Auschwitz and my mother was orphaned very young. My father had 4 brothers, Mendel, Willie, Miksha and Armin. If anyone can help me trace my family I would be so grateful. I want my American grandchildren to know about their heritage.

lodovico jucker: Re: Moshe Weinberger, Leopold Weinberger, Judit Ickovics
The grandfather of my wife was Mark Vedres, born in Ungvar (1871): his original family name was Weinberger, not Vedres. He was a sculptor and lived in Budapest and Florence.
We do not have any other information about the family of Vedres (weinberger) Mark.

Any relation with your family?

Rutika: Re: Moshe Weinberger, Leopold Weinberger, Judit Ickovics
It is possible that there is some relation as my grandfather, Moshe Weinberger is the same generation as your Mark Weinberger/Vedres. Moshe was married to Fani, they had two daughters, Rose and Antonia, five sons, Mendel, Willie, Leopold (my father) Miksha and Armin. My father was nicknamed Patyu, and the youngest brother, a professional soccer player was known as Dugo. All of the family lived in Ungvar and worked in a family business. My grandparents, their daughters, one son, and all but one grandchild perished in the holocaust. My cousin who was a preteen survivor has remained very close to all the cousins born post 1945. None of the 4 surviving sons are alive today. I don't know anything about my grandfather's family...siblings, cousins, neices, nephews so I don't know where to go from here to establish a link between the two families. Any suggestions? Rutika

Linda

My grandfather, Ignatz Weinberger, was born in Rebrin in 1862, south of Michalovoce, near Zemplinska Siroka, not far from Ujhely. His father's name was Abraham Moshe. My grandfather's two half brothers, from a second wife, born 1873 and 1883 were Joseph and Samuel Weinberger. There may have been other siblings, possibly a Sadie. They lived on a farm.

My grandafather came to New York in 1880 and brought Joseph, Samuel, and I think, another brother later

Any connection?

My mother's mother was Erzsebet Weinberger (perished in the Holocaust). Erzsebet's father's name was Jeno. Jeno had a brother named Ignatz. Erzsebet's mother's name was Gizella Grunfeld. Erzsebet had 3 siblings: Armin (changed his name to Andor Boros), Jozefin and Rozsi. Erzsebet married Vilmos Klein.

The family was from Miskolc, Hungary. However, one of the Weinbergers (cousin?) was previously named Vedres and was a sculptor. That's all I know about him. I wonder if this is the same Weinberger/Vedres you mention. Hard to believe there would be 2 sculptors named Weinberger/Vedres.

Dear Scott,
My grandmother, Regina Lenke Weinberger (B 1887), was the daughter of Abraham Weinberger and Betti Zicherman: she had a brother Nathan, (B 1892). They lived in Tiszalok.
Not sure if this may be your grandfather?

My greatgrandfather Jozef (Married to Gabriella( Buxbaum) would have been born well before 1883. In fact my grandfather was born in 1888. He had a brother named Ignatz (married to Margit). He also had other siblings: Imre, Hugo,Helen (Halasz), Bertha (Biro),Susan (Miklosh) and others. Maybe some has information. Again, they were from Satoraljaujhely.

My paternal grandfather was Weinberger Leopold Farkas a shoe factory owner in Debrecen. He was born in 3/22/1883; he died in Debrecen on 7/30/1948.
He married Lowy Hermina in Hajduszoboszlo on 2/26/1907.

I am looking for his birthplace. (I have the wedding certificate which has neither information on his birthplace, nor the names of his parents!)

WienbergerGrunbaum: Re: keresem
Nem tudom sikerült-e több infót találni.
Ime egy másik Weinberger ág.
Weinberger Adolf
lánya:
Weinberger Malvin sz.1880.03.15 Karcag,Holocaust áldozat
Férje:
Grünbaum Mór sz.1879.01.12 Nagyoklos Hunyad megye

Oh.. és még volt egy Weinberger József, Malvinnak a bátyja aki Vér Józsefre cserélte a nevét, állitólag Kunmadarasról.
Hires hegedűs volt, még a francia Riviérán is játszott?
Ennyit tudok, hogyha valaki tudna többet segiteni nekem is?
************
I don't know if you have found more info, this is what I have.
Adolf Weinberger's daughter is:
Malvin Weinberger b.1880.03.15 Karcag Hungary d.Holocaust
husband:
Mór Grünbaum b.1879.01.12 Nagyoklos Hunyad county now in Romania

Oh... and there is a Jozsef Weinberger, he is Malvin's brother. Maybe from Kunmadaras Hungary. He named himself Jozsef Vér and I have heard that he became a famous violinist. I know that he even played in France.
If someone has more info about these Weinbergers I would very much like to know myself.

Thanks Christina

jjarfas: Weinberger, Mátyás, Lajos
I have also Weinbergers from Tiszaújlak.
Mátyás and Emilia Berger were the parents of Lajos who was born around 1880.
Lajos married Dewora Müller in Budapest in 1906, who in turn was born in Wienna, Austria. Estimate Mátyás' birth around 1855-58.

Mark Vedres was my great-grandfather's brother. According to my records Vedres died in 1961. He had a daughter, Nicole (died 1965?), and may have had others but I don't have their information.

My great-grandfather's name was Jeno Weinberger. One of his daughters, Erzsebet, was my grandmother.
