R.Cath's and Evang's had church in town, Gr.Cath's went to Kajso, Izr's to Kesmark so their vital records are under those towns:

Bob: Wittchen -Szepe Bela

I have been doing genealogy for over 40 years but I am in Hungary for the first time. My interest is two brothers Julius Wittchen born 21 April 1883 and Geza Wittchen, born 22 August 1889 in Szepes Bela, Hungary.

Can you give me some help with names? Thanks.

* Am I correct that Szepes Bela is now Spisska Bela?

* My web search frequently takes me to Kassa Bela. Is that the same place
or is there a relationship?

* Szepes Bela is in what County?

You're correct, Szepes was the County in Hungary where Szepes Béla was located until 1920, when Czechoslovakia was created, now it's in Slovakia.
Kassa Béla was in Kassa County, before 1920, now it's in Slovakia and called Kosicka Bela, close to the city of Kosice, previously Kassa.
Their common name Béla is a popular Hungarian given name, carried by many Hungarian kings. One of them IV.Béla spent considerable time in the area fighting the Tatars in the middle of the 1200s. Both places had a creek named Béla close by.

It is possible that the WITTCHEN living in town of Kezmarok, which is about 5km South of Spisska Bela, be a descendant or at least a distant relative. Best of luck in the next step of your research.

Before 1920 Hungary, Kassa was in Abaúj-Torna County, there was no Kassa County.

Couldn't handle the phone book as my only other lanquage is some Spanish.

Can you give me the postal address for the two Wittchens nearby.

In writing to them, I would assume that I should get my letter translated first from English to German?

The SK's phone site does have an English version, way on top of the screen in small letters.

As for the letter, take a chance and send it in English or German. More and more children and adults are learning English. Do include your e-mail address and if possible a photo of your ancestor for that extra, little visual aid.

The zip code goes before a name of a town in the address.

Can you help with any information with the POCS ancestry?
They came from Ungvár, Ung megye (old Hungary).They changed their name to POACH. they settled in the Pensylvania, Virginia area, where they live today.Any information would be greatly apriciated.

Click on Ung megye to locate a town Ungvar which was at one time for a short time Uzhorod, Czechoslovakia and at present time is Uzghorod, Ukraine.

Do post on all the boards that apply to your surname.
If the village was still in Slovak Republic (Czechoslovakia) it would be no problem to do the research as the LDS-Mormons have filmed the church records. This being now Ukraine you might have to hire a researcher to locate ancestral information.
