szvorsky

Somehow ZVURSZKI does not strike me as a Ruthenian surname.

szvorsky: Re: Zvurszki
Ferencz Lvurszki, if my great grand father. I had ellis island changed the L to a Z.
Feodor Zvurs'kyj, I have his birthcertificate.

The family name now is Zvurs'kyj. He came over from Patakos listed as a Ruthenian. I have travel back to Patakos this year. I found his father tombstone Jurko Zvurs'kyj and Have met the decendents of Feodor's know 11 siblings, All still live in or around Patakos. Feodor's mother was Jula Maskarinecz.
He married Borka Szvida daughter of Feodor Szvida and Mara Kost' from Patakos.

The family story from Patakos states that a man(first name unkown) came from Krakow around 1795is and had at least one son name Matvij in Patakos, then Matvij had Jurko. Looking for more info.

Also there is a river Zvur close to Patakos, and also the village of Zvur/Zwor/Zvir/Zvor near Stary Sambor that may led to the family name.

Recently found USSR Documents of a Nikolaj Zvursky from Vasil'Kovka(Keiv) area.

there must be some documents from the Austria-Hungarian Empire . I have found our name in the 1829 Census for Patakos...line 1 form the village ..showing what I believe in A Mich Zvurszki.

szvorsky: Re: Zvurszki
You are right about the name. Only two other families from Patakos carry a SKI ending. Tokarski and Arendacski.
Trying to figure it out...Polish Noble, Hungarian Noble, Ruthien Noble?! I have a book of Patskan'ovo written by a relative from my Svida Side. Little mention of Zvurs'kyj. It seams for the last 100 years no one over there know the Zvurs'kyj married into the Szvida's!!!!

Also trying to find more infomation about a fire 1932 that burn all but 2 houses in the village...Masryak(??) rebuilt the village after that.

The volunteer transcribed the letter Z incorrectly. Glad to hear that you had success having it changed.
Feodor ZVURSKYJ sounds more Ruthenian.
Did you obtain his naturalization petition? Just out of curiosity for some more information.
It is possible that the ending "ski/sky/skyj" was added to the location Zvur/Zwor/Zvir.

I find ZWORSKI in Poland.
www.herby.com.pl in Polish and only distribution.
