I too am a Gemza, my grandfather (Jan) immigrated through Ellis Island ~ 1910 and resided in Pennsylvania. I have his parents names and a location (not with me right now) of where he immigrated from, at the time was part of Austria Poland (on the document). I will try to gather more of the information and post it.
My fathers cousins (still living)spell their surname with an "i" in it which was considered normal in Polish language. However the family differed on the use the "i" in Gemza.
There has always been a little confusion on if they were Polish, Ukranian, or other...my father spoke and or understood Polish, Ukranian and Russian (all sort of the same).
