Rako: Zathurecky-Vajvoda2006/03/13, 13:53:11
In Kempelen there is a single line reference to "Vajvoda (Alias Zathureczky)" There is no other reference in the Hungarian genealogical literature.
In the extract from the register of births (from 1809) all male members are entered as "N. Zathureczky, vajvoda, nobilis".
In the register of nobles from the years 1754/55 (as you can see on the attached picture) there is a long list of "Zathureczky, Vajvoda"-s (although it look as if Vajvoda is crossed out.)
There is a Zathureczky family-history written in Chech, where a branch is refered to as "Linie Záturecký-Vojvoda".
A very nice lady from Cleveland, Ohio, (who has a female Zathureczky ancestor) is searching for the meaning of Vajvoda in this context.
In the Nagyiván the entry of Zsigmond Zathureczky is suffixed "Vajda" (vojvoda).
In Borovszky's description of the commitat Bars, there is one explanation: In 17th century in the so-called "Peasant-Commitat" (a form of selfdefence militia institution) the rang of lieutenant was also called vajda.
But there is a gap of about 150 years, so the connection is doubtful.

If anyone could help in anyway towards the solution, please add your salt here. Any bit can help.
