You are right. The origin of your surname might be Szekeres. But it could also have been Szekér, which is closer. Szekeres is a relatively common surname that means Carter. Szekér means cart, but it is not a common surname. Finding your particular ancestors shoud start stateside by trying to identify both name and surname of your first immingrant ancestor. Only then could you try to find his birth records in Hungary, if you also know his place of birth. Universal recod keeping of births may not have started in Hungary before the 18th century, but I am no expert! In other words, it might not be easy. Good luck. Szabolcs | ||
