anca bratuleanu: request of information regarding Otto Bodascher life
My name is Anca Bratuleanu and I am a professor of the "Ion Mincu" University of architecture and Urban Planning. I am writing a book regarding the development of the city of Timisoara in the interwar period. In this period Otto Bodascher was architect in chief of the city. As well, he wrote a lot of articles in the Romanian magazine "Urbanismul" and in the French magazine "La vie urbaine". He aslo worked with the Institut d'Urbansime de l'Univesrite de Sorbonne, Paris.
I did not find any other trace of him. In one of his letters he mentioned he was czech as nationality. Could I find other information regarding his life?
Thank you very much.

Anca

Otto BODASCHER seems like German roots. He could have been born in the Sudetenland of Bohemia.

I did not find a Bodascher in Czech Republic's phone book.

These are alternative names - HORSCHEPNIK HÄRTLINGS HORZEPNIK HOREPNÍK

HORZEPNIK appears in ***that*** form in the 1793 census of Bohemia and in the 1851 marriage document I am researching.

I am a very active member of the Austria-Czech SIG of Jewish gen but this is a project in its infancy so will not post yet.

bottom of the map by XII Bohmen the village is as Hor'epnik.
The ' or ^ (upside down) is a diacritical marking on letter R and thus it would sound like RZ.

My evidence now points to this BODASCHER family being of Moravian origin {Batelov/Battelau, Telc/Teltsch} and thence moving to Bohemia. They were certainly in Moravia in the early 1800s and most probably well before then, but I cannot find them in the 1793 census of Bohemia.

If some family members moved to Hungary, that would fit with the Moravia>Hungary migration, of which there is much evidence.

Hello; you are obviously not a genealogist - one has to track families to get this data! People do not arise out of nowhere spontaneously.

I have tracked them back to Moravia when names were adopted and I have a followed them through to Bohemia in the late 1800s - these are probably related. There are quite a few Jewish BODASCHER burials in Vienna too, but it will be a couple of months before I am there to look at them and see where they came from.

Yours may have come directly from Moravia or Bohemia via Moravia - he probably studied architecture in Prague, Brunn or Vienna. Have you any data?

If you look at yad vashem, you will see 23 BODASCHER holocaust victims - some from Bohemia and a few from Moravia Brunn/Brn and Trebic/Trebitsch. One is from Vienna.

Some are contemporaries of the architect - and some may be his parents or his uncles and aunts.

I suspect they are all somehow related, as this is not a common name.

No, I am not at all a genealogist.
I am an historian of architecture and I am amazed by the total absence of data regarding such a prominent figure of the urban planning in the interwar period. Not only he was the Head of the Technical Service of the Municipality of Timisoara (and made a lot of clever things in the field of urban gestion) in the interwar period, but he was connected to the Central and Western European urban movements.
And it is like he really vanished after 1939. I do not find any person knowing or writing something about him. It is unbelievable!
Did you find something in Vienna?
Thank you,
Yours,
Anca Bratuleanu
