	Zlatica : Re: Erdelyan genealogy Paul-Patrick Do you have a place of birth? The surname sure does not look like it would have been shortened. Have you looked in this site in the Surname index? Just glanced over at the ERDELYANs coming thru EI, it seems like former Yugoslavia and Romania. I did not look at each individual manifest. Checked also the ERDELJAN. 	Joellen Watkins: Re: Erdelyan genealogy Hello Paul-Patrick, I have found the ERDELYAN surname spelled in the following ways: ERDELJAN, ERDELYAN, and ERDELIAN. I suspect your surname was not actually "shortened" but respelled to suit the ears of those in North America. So far, it seems, the oldest spelling is ERDELJAN. This surname means "one from Erdely".
