fruehauf: fruehauf family
Apart from my profession as internist at the Medical University Hospital in Heidelberg/Germany, I have been conducting genealogical research on the historic distribution of the family name Frue(h)auf for many years. The results of this work on Frue(h)auf families from Thuringia, Bohemia/Silesia, Franconia and Russia have been published in numerous genealogical journals.

Meanwhile I know many namesakes who have contributed to my collection.

It would be kind, if you were able to share some information on the origins of your Frue(h)auf family with me.

If you are interested, I'd be happy to e-mail you one of the above articles or find out in my little archive whether there are more Frue(h)auf families from your area of origin that might be related to you.

Sincerely,
Dr. Stefan Fruehauf

CLColegrove: Re: fruehauf family
Hello! I am looking for Fruehauf (90% sure that is how it is spelled, at least that was in an obituary) family information. My name is Christopher L. Colegrove. My great-grandmother was Josephine (Josefa) Anna Fruehauf. She was born on May 16, 1881 in Bohemia. She came to the United States in c. 1902 and settled in Cleveland, Ohio. She made one return visit to Bohemia around 1911 with her husband, Frank (Franz) Pliml. They lived in Cleveland, Ohio area most of their lives. Frank Pliml died in 1952. Josephine died in June of 1978. They had four children: Jaroslav (Jerry) Pliml, Josephine (Josefa) Pliml, George Pliml (1913-2001), and my grandmother: Gladys Pliml (Sourek) (1921-1994).

Another interesting bit of information. Great-Grandma Josephine Pliml (Fruehauf) had a sister named Rose or Rosemary. Rose also came to Cleveland area. I believe our Great-Great-Cousin Richard (very recently deceased) was her son.

Anyway, I have no information on any Fruehauf's and I was wondering if you may have any info that could help my research?

thanks

Chris Colegrove

Christopher

It seems that your Franz, Josefa, Josefa, Jaroslav and Franz PLIML in 1911 came thru Ellis Island. They were visiting a father/grandfather living in Dobriv, Bohemia.
A map of Bohemia:
http://feefhs.org/maps/AH/ah-bohem.html
To locate a town in Czech Republic (Bohemia and Moravia) use http://mapy.atlas.cz
The town of Dobriv's phone book is listing a female PLIML(OVA) and a FRUHAUF(OVA). http://phone.quick.cz
It is a little village with 1037 inhabitants.
Using One Step in locating an Ellis Island manifest from a village Dobriv 56 people. It seems that Josefa and Frantisek were traveling together in 1902. Both of them were naturalized citizens on the same day. The numbers are on the manifest. www.ellisislandrecords.org You need to register but no money. After you do that, use One Step/Gray form www.jewishgen.org/databases/EIDB/ellis.html

CLColegrove: Re: Fruhauf family
Thank you!!

I checked Ellis Island and found what you said and more, Josefa came over in 1902!

I was wondering how you found about Frank Pliml coming over the same time?

Do you have any info on how I could trace the Pliml line overseas?

Thank you very much!

Christopher L. Colegrove

Your welcome.

To proceed with the research in CZ, you can go to the archive yourself or hire a researcher.
Some are in this site : www.centroconsult.sk
As for Josefa, in 1902 she came as FRUHAUF and Frantisek PLIML is #8 (above) her on the ship's manifest. Frantisek's surname is transcribed as Hincl.

Christopher L. Colegrove: Fruhauf & Pliml Families
Since my post a few years back I have been in touch with a few distant cousins and have found much on the Fruhauf side. My branch lived in Dobriv, Bohemia for at least three generations. I have always assumed they were Czech. My mother's grandmother told her they were "Bohemian" (i.e. Czech). Some on this site mention or imply the name is Russian, Hungarian, or Jewish. Is there an original Fruhauf nationality? clcolegrove -k-u-k-a-c- gmail -p-o-n-t- com
