Peleskei (Pollágh) Katalin: Keresés
Nagymamám Galambos Ilona rokonait keresem, akik Amerikába költöztek az 1920-as években.

A nagyszüleim a 20-as évektől, egészen tavalyig, amig a nagynéném meghalt Zuglóban laktak. Ismerős

gere-galambos: Re: Galambos
Sorry, I do not know Hungarian, but recognized familiar names in your post. Perhaps we are related?

My great-grandfather was Josef Galambos, born 24 April 1877 in Agserno, Zemplen (now, I think, called Cierna nad Tisou, in Slovakia). He emigrated to the U.S. and married my great-grandmother, Eva Gere from Nagy Geocz, Ung,(now in Ukaraine) in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania on 26 April 1903. They had three children, Eva, Joseph, and Rebecca (my paternal grandmother). He died in Indiana on 3 May 1919. I am still trying to get more records. I just today found on Zoznam.sk an address and phone number for an Alexander Galambos in Cierna nad Tisou, who may be a relative. I was adopted as an infant and am trying to find my roots.

I would be happy to hear from you.

Hello Susan:

Thank you for your e-mail. I originally wrote to Radix in Hungarian because I thought I would get more response; actually I wrote in both languages, so it paid off. I hope to find more information as well regarding my father's side of the family (Galambos) & hope that it may be helpful to you as well.

My father's name was John Galambos Jr., born in Bismark, North Dakota in 1912; he died in London, Ontario, Canada in 1999. My mother's name was Mary Urban, born in Kartal, Hungary in 1920. My mother is still alive. They were married in 1940.

My father's parents names were John and Mary Galambos (as well), both born in Hungary to my knowledge, in the late 1890's. I think Grampa John was born around 1899 & Gramma Mary around 1890 or so. They had 7 children, one of which was my father John Jr. Dads siblings & where they ended up living are as follows: Julia Juhasz (Szada, Hungary), Mary Uni, Alex Galambos, Andrew Galambos (Leask, Saskatchewan, Canada), Steve Galambos & Hilda Kiss(Welland, Ontario, Canada), and John Jr.- my Dad (Rodney, Ontario Canada).

The family moved back to Szada, Hungary when my Dad was 2, around 1914. Then I think they either went back to the states for a while, but eventually ended up settling as home-steaders in Leask Saskatchewan, where my dad met my mom at the same church they attended.

Unfortunately, I don't know of any other relatives...people didn't talk much back then, so I lost a good chunk of my geneological history. I did know my uncles & aunts children, at least those who lived in Canada, but didn't get to know any of my Hungarian relatives, until 1972 when I met my Aunt Julia Juhasz & her husband & children.

That's about it...I am trying to establish how long my father was in the states & am trying to find more relatives as well. Hope this helps...feel free to contact me any time.

Hello:

I am trying to find information on my father's side of the family (Galambos). His name was John Galambos Jr., born in Bismark, North Dakota in 1912, died in London, Ontario, Canada in 1999. He married my mother, Mary Urban in 1940. My father's father's name was also John Galambos Sr., born around 1890-1899. He married Mary Bodnar, and she was probably born around 1899 or so. They lived in Szada, Hungary, but then immigrated for a time to North Dakota, USA where they worked and where my father was born. They then moved back to Szada, Hungary for a time, but then eventually moved to Leask, Saskatchewan, Canada around 1914 ot 1915 where they were homesteaders on a farm. My Grandpa John and Grandma Mary had 7 children: Julia Juhasz - Szada,Hungary; Mary Uni, Andrew Galambos and Alex Galambos - Leask, Saskatchewan, Canada; Steve Galambos and Hilda Kiss - Welland, Ontario; John Galambos Jr. - Rodney, Ontario, Canada.

In 1972 I met my aunt Julia Juhasz, her husband John and their children Sara and Steve. Sara was un married, but Steve married a woman by the name of Margaret (Munci), I don't know her maiden name - they had three boys, Tibor, Peter and Erik, all living in Hungary in 1972. I have since tried to find them, but haven't been able to locate any of them.

I don't know anything about my Grandpa John's brothers or sisters (if he had any), so if you are related that would be wonderful to discover a branch of his family I never knew existed. I plan on visiting Hungary again in the near future and would love to find/meet more relatives.

Hello, I have been developed an interes in researching my father's family recently and I found this site by accident. As I read along I realized you were talking about my family also. My grandfather was John Galambos Sr and my father is Alex Galambos. Grampa and Gramma also had 2 other daughters, Irene Elliot, who was married to Bill Elliot and lived in Thompson, Manitoba, and who passed away over 10 years ago. Irene was the youngest dtr and has 2 dtrs Trudy and Glenda. The other dtr was Esther Ryhorchuk, who also passed away several years ago. She lived in Melfort, Sk. and has 3 children, Gary, Daphne and Kevin. My dad is the only one left in his immediate family, although I'm not sure about Julia, I know she was older than Dad, but I do not know much about her family. Dad has lost contact with Julia and her family and we do not know them. I now will ask Dad about his father's brothers and sisters as I also do not know about them. This is a very interesting site. Thank you

Hi Brenda:

I believe you've found a long lost cousin Brenda! My name is Terry (Galambos) and I remember you and your brother when I visited Saskatchewan in the 60's with my father. Your brother's name is Murray is it not? My family (Mom and Dad, sister Gwen & her husband Paul), visited Saskatchewan in the 90's & they told me about the nice time you all had at your home! I did not go because of work, children, & other commitments, but I sure wished I had.

And Alex is my uncle and Edna was my aunt! How fortunate that you found this site by accident. I remember all my aunts: Irene and the daughters Trudy and Glenda & my other aunt Esther and her children, although only vaguely since I was only around 6 years old. I visited aunt Julia & her husband Uncle John, Juhasz back in 1972 in Hungary, but they both have long since passed away. That was an interesting trip to say the least.

Your message to Radix went directly to my e-mail address, so if you'd like, we can continue talking and getting to know each other & our families. I'm so glad you found the site...maybe between us, we can figure out the Galambos history pre-Saskatchewan.

Terry
