	Silvia: Homoky Gal I would like to ask if anyone knows anybody with the name Homoky or better Gal Homoky. My grand grandfather was from Ungvar, now part of Ukraine. The Slovak Republic's phone book is listing a surname HOMOKY in the town of Velke Kapusany and Dolne Oresany. www.zoznamst.sk http://mapy.atlas.sk for location of a town. The town of Velke Kapusany is in the Eastern region of Slovak Republic and not that far from Uzgorod. It is possible that this Alzbeta / Erzsebet might be related thru marriage to your ancestor. 23 HOMOKYs passed thru Ellis Island and several of them were from Ungvar. 	Lenore: Homoky heritage My grandfather's last name was Homoky. He changed his first name to John, but I have seen it spelled on documents as Emre, Emric. I am not sure if that is the anglosized version of the correct spelling. He always said he emmigrated here from Budapest when he was a small child. I have yet to be able to confirm his entrance to the US through Ellis Island. Emrich, Emre and John are all names he used, so that would be a yes. I am suspect that he might not have been born in Budapest, but perhaps somewhere near there. 	vincent: Re: Homoky Gal My wife's mother's maiden name was Homoky.Her name was Ann Homoky. She was one of six children born to an immigrant family from Hungary. The family ran for land in Oklahoma in 1912. The area they settled in was near Arnett, OK. 	Lenore: Re: Homoky Gal I wrote earlier about my grandfather, who my husband found listed on the wall at Ellis Island when we were there recently, as coming through in 1903 as Imre Homoky. He always said he was from Buda Pest...not sure which one. He is long gone, but may be a relation to your wife's mother. He had a brother and a sister here in the US, but was estranged from them and I never met my distant cousins.
