In 1993 the country of Czechoslovakia separated into Czech Republic and Slovak Republic. What language did your ancestor spoke? You need to locate a precise place of birth in order to proceed with the research. Take a look in this site: www.iabsi.com/gen/public Have you located their manifest? 	Robert: Re: KALAFUT / PETROS I am not sure of the language. The Kalafuts married into my family. They were coal miners here in PA. They were members of Immaculate Conception Slovak Roman Church. You might locate another family member that came thru EI so do not discard that site. If your ancestors had social security numbers or were naturalized citizen than those forms will have a place of birth. 	Critterlady32: Re: KALAFUT / PETROS Hi Roger. My great grandmother was a KALAFUT. Her name was Maria. She was born 16 April 1875 in Markusovce, Slovakia. She came over 18 Nov. 1903 on the ship SS Grosser Kurfurst and entered through New York. I saw your message and thought I would say "hello". I am still trying to locate her birth records to see about who her parents were, siblings, that kinda stuff. Do you know who George's parents were or siblings?
