| Janos: Re: Kezdi-Kovacs | Dear Sabrina,
There is a district here in Transylvania named Kezdi.
The Kovacs (Smith/Blacksmith/Hammer-Smith/Farrier) surname is very common in whole the Hungary and Transylvania. It looks that a family named Kovacs had roots in Kezdi(vasarhely) area (at this moment Tirgu Secuiesc, Covasna County, Romania) and they toke this additional name or to show their area of origin, or only to mark an other/different Kovacs family line.
In Jozsef Palmay's book - The Noble Families of Haromszek, issued in 1905 - on pages 258-264 are mentioned a lot of Kovacs families, and also one from Kezdi(vasarhely), some with roots back to 1500.
Have you some other infos on your ancestors?
Good luck in your research and best wishes,
Janos Kocs - from Transylvania
