Hi, I was wondering if anyone could tell me anything about the name Koczan. I know that when my father came to the US it used to have an accent. But my family here in the US has lost contact with my family in Hungary so I cant ask them about our history. If you have any info at all it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

You need to locate a name of a town in order to proceed with the research.
Hungary's phone site is at :

Take a look in Ellis Island website. Maybe you just might find an ancestor or two passing thru there to America.
Hungary was a large empire.

My surname is Koczan. I live in Poland, Olsztyn. But my father not came from US, but from Lithuania.
I don't think, that we are family, but is very pleasant to find person with the same surname.

My family name is Koczan, as far as I know my father was Polish but was born in 1920 in what is now Lithuania, it was Poland before the 2nd world war. I'm not sure of the name of the town in which he was born, I'll check.
I know the name is very rare in Poland, I have cousins in Poland who have never met any other Poles with the same name.

Well you never know if we are related or not. I think my father came from near Wilejka which is south of Wilno and seems to be in modern Belarus near the border with Lithuania.
I tried to find Vandziogala on a map but could n't, where is it in relation to Wilno?
I was born and live in England.

My grandmother was Erzs�bet K�cz�n and she was born in the town of Talapatka, Hungary. That town has now been consolidated into a larger region called Szentgotthard. I have found the birth, death and marriage records for the time period 1824-1895 for many K�cz�n's on LDS microfilm 0602023.

There is a villigage of Western Hungary. It's name HEGYK�.
There are three type of family in HEGYK� only. One of them is K�CZ�N. Inthe meantime the population of HEGYK� is 2500 peoples.
My parents was born in HEGYK�.

"gyer" is equal "Gy�r". This is the one of the larges city of Western part of Hungary.
In Hungary we are used a comma above "o" (�)and above "a" (�). I think it is an original K�cz�n name.

My Family (grandfather) based on Hegyk�. He has two boys. One of the boy came to Washington states (Spokane). He has been living from 1956 year. He has a 3 children. My father is living in Hungary.
I'am sure the K�cz�n family is from one family tree, but not this line. Maybe from the last century.
I have got my family tree from 1680 up to 2008 year.

My grandfather's mother was also named Erzs�bet K�cz�n, but she was born on 14.01.1883 instead of 04.04.1887 in Talapatka. She had a sister named M�ria K�cz�n who was born on 13.12.1887 instead of 26.03.1885 in Talapatka. There must be a relationship between your relatives and mine. Do you know who the parents are of your relatives?

Hello all Koczan`s.
I am searching for information and whereabouts of my Siedlecki/Koczan families that are somewhere in Poland.
My grandfather married Anna Koczan I think in Brest,Poland,now Belarus.They had my father Jan Siedlecki and his brother Jozef.
They also had a daughter I think her name was Janka but I am unsure,she I believe died in the nazi`s death camps.
Prior to the war they lived in Siemiatycze,Biala Podlaska.
Any information on Koczan`s or Siedlecki familie`s would be greatfully received.

I've read your request concerning the name "Koczan". This is my surname too and I learned from somebody in an internet platform that Koczan originally was a polish name. It is the name of a certain weapon of knights during the middleages. I have Hungarian roots too but I learned that I must have had also polish roots. "Koczan" is no Hungarian name, as I've got informed by Hungarian friends. For 3 generations my family has lived in Austria. Hope I could help you!

Korzan is an alternate spelling of Koczan. My family identifies themselves as Bohemian although they from the countries of Czech and Austria. Bohemian, I believe, is the ethnicity; while the name is commonly found in many eastern European countries.

Hello, my mothers maiden name is Koczan. She was born in Budapest in the 1920s. Her father apparently was a Judge in Budapest until after WW2. I never met him as my mother's family are now in Australia. Also her uncle won the bronze medal in the 1912 Olympics for javelin....any relation?
