| Wiesner: Re: Surname Negrey | | My grandmother Ludmilla was a Negrey, born 1880 in Orsova, Southern Hungary, today Rumania. Had a brother Jenoe (Eugen), a major in the Royal Hungarian Army, who lived in Debrecen. He had a son Jenoe jr. and daughter Ilona. There was an other brother Sandor (Alexander), in Vienna, Austria. He had a son Alexander, also in Vienna. Grandmother had two sisters, both lived and died in Orsova. I don't recall their names. There were cousins: Karl in Sofia, Bulgaria, Manfred in Philadelphia, USA, and one more who's name I don't recall, who was in the German merchant marine, and was interned in 1939 in South Africa. His destiny is not known. To my knowledge, the Family Negrey settled in the 18th century in Hungary, in the Orsova, Temesvar (today Timisoara) vicinity, and came from the Alsace- Lorraine area of France and Germany. All older members of the family spoke French and German fluently, as were many families in that area. I hope, this info was helpful |
