Terri: Oros
I am looking for information on the Oros family, they lived in Hungarian and moved to the USA, not sure when, all I know is my Grandfather name Andrew Joseph Oros, and he died in 1976. If anyone has any information or might have an Andrew J Oros in their family please please email me. I didn't know my grandfather, and I am trying to put a family tree together, and I am having a hard time with this side of the family

Thank you
God Bless

Backtrack. Someplace in the US documents for your grandfather should be his place of birth in Hungary.
His SS-5Form should have his place of birth and names of his parents.

I don't have the documents, my mother was adopted out after her birth and she didn't know her parents, and I never knew them either, they are all gone now and that is why I am searching to find out anything

Were you trying to find any US documents on your ancestor? Was he the first ancestor that came from "old country"? What was language spoken by your ancestor?
Andrew OROS does show up in SSDI. http://ssdi.rootsweb.com
You need a placename in old country to proceed with the research.

No, I am trying to find out information on Frank Oros's Family, he died in Hungray but his wife and five children came to the US, around 1922 we think, his wife's name was Julia Vegh, and they had five children, Andrew, Frank Jr, Jimmie, Ethel, Irma, my aunt thinks (and she is in her 70's) that they came from Kigyosi Hungray, but I can't find that place anywhere, name must have changed, just trying to find out as much as I can, so that I can finish our family tree

thanks

Have a great day

Your welcome

From what document did you get Kigyosi, Hungary? I believe this to be not correct spelling of a village. What documents do you have on Julia VEGH and the 5 children? Do you have their manifest? Were they naturalized citizen? Had social security numbers? http://ssdi.rootsweb.com

kezdi: Orosz from Kigyos
Terri,
The only Kigyosi was a puszta (an outlying rural settlement) which belonged to Pusztamiske, Veszprem County, I doubt that they came from there, it had a population of 12.

But, there was Kigyos a village in Bereg County, which today falls in to Ukraine and called Zmijivka.
Checking www.EllisIsland.org, found this Orosz family from Kigyos, Julia's brothers name Vegh Andras in Kigyos:

Manifest for Saxonia
Port of Departure Fiume
Date of Arrival Nov 02, 1912

0018. Orosz, Julia F 26y M Hungary, Magyar Kigyos, Hungary
0019. Orosz, Ferencz M 7y S Hungary, Magyar Kigyos, Hungary
0020. Orosz, Imre M 6y S Hungary, Magyar Kigyos, Hungary
0021. Orosz, Endre M 2y S Hungary, Magyar Kigyos, Hungary

Destination was husband/father Orosz Ferencz in Kalamazoo, Mich. This time frame a little earlier, perhaps they did additional trip(s). Endre/Andras translates to Andrew.

Hope this helps,
Joseph

Zlatica : Re: OROSZ Ferencz ar. 1911
Thank you Joseph for pointing out the manifests.
Could this be Julia's husband's manifest?
Ferencz OROSZ arriving in 1911, left a wife OROSZ Ferenczne in Kigyos going to Mich. Kalamazoo acqu. LOCSEI (sp?) Janos. Ferencz was in US 1907 and 1909.

A quick EllisIsland search came up with 2 trips for Ferencz Sr. so far, one in 1907 and one in 1911:

20 Orosz, Ferencz Kigyos, Hungary 34 1877 1911
21 Orosz, Ferencz Kigyos, Hungary 30 1877 1907

Kigyos is just so slightly North-East of Beregszasz.

use one step/gold form www.stevemorse.org to find people, other ancestors that were arriving from Kigyos.
