Forgot to mention, that the "i" and "y" name endings are common Hung. name creating suffixes, meaning somebody is from or belong to that place. They are interchangables and happens inside families too, the "y" has a noble flair to it, real or imagenary. In Transylvania there was/are 4 Pestes, and since the family history books Kempelen and Nagy Ivan refers to Doboka, that's Pestes/Pestera(R) in Dés/Dej(R) district of Szolnok-Doboka County of historical Hungary, today in Cluj County, Romania. It could help to determine by religionwise also, in 1877 Pestes was a small Gr.Cath. village (201 residents).
Place Status County (1913) District (1913) Current country
Sólyomkőpestes kisközség Bihar Élesdi Romania
Alpestes kisközség Hunyad Dévai Romania
Felsőpestes kisközség Hunyad Vajdahunyadi Romania
Pestes kisközség Szolnok-Doboka Dési Romania
If you think, that perhaps your Pestesi name originated closer to Fagaras-Brasso, than from Dés/Dej, it's entirely possible that perhaps got it from the two places in Hunyad/Hunedoara(R) County:
Al(=Lower)-Pestes/Pestes/Pestisu Mare [Pestisul din Jos](R)/Unter-Peschtendorf(G)
Felső(=Upper)-Pestes/Felpestes/Pestes/Pestisu Mic [Pestisul de Sus](R)
I can ask why Pestesi missing from the name list.
