| northview: Re: Quasnovsky | | Our family came to the US in the early 20th century from Fogaras, onboard a ship departing from Hamburg. I believe several brothers arrived together. They were originally "von Quasnovsky." Nearly all the family uses the surname "Quasnovsky," spelled in this way with a Q, here in the US, but the family scattered across the country after arrival and there are no connections. Most family members have solid German first names like Berthold, Mathilda, Johann and Eugen. Many of the men are named Carl or Karl. We are having a lot of difficulty researching this family. Our great-grandfather served in the army and someone has a picture of him with his sword. We believe some of the Quasnovsky's were in Budapest as shoemakers and indeed some iron shoe forms were found wrapped in newspapers in a basement, along with a picture of the Kaiser. Mostly we cannot seem to find the origin of this family, whether they be German, Austrian, Russian or Hungarian. The elders in the family never spoke of their past and died at a young age so their descendants cannot trace much. We do know that they were very musical, this was very important; all the family played the violin and other instruments and that they were related by marriage to the Schuberts, descendants of the family of Franz Schubert the composer. Anna Schubert was the relative the family knew who eventually came to the US. If you have any knowledge of this name, please contact us her at "northview." Thank you. |
