James : Repaszky family of Krompach/Kosice
Hi! Any other relatives of the famous Repaszky family that moved from Krompach to Kosice (the canon of the cathedral and the architects from the 19th century)? If so, I'd love to hear from you!

James

The city of Kosice's phone book is listing REPASKY, REPASZKA (female), and REPAS^SKA (female). www.zoznamst.sk
You could send a letter of inquiry with your family information and see what comes back.

remilia: great grandfather
Dear Zemling,

If you still interested in the topic, maybe we can help each other. I am Répászky as well and I am trying to find out who belonged to my family, where did we come from, etc. I am living in Budapest and my great grandfather moved from Gömör county to Budapest in the begining of the 20th century. Some members of the family moved to Switzerland, some went to the US. That's all I know. I hope you get this message.
all the best,

Emilia Répászky.

jfmcgrat: Repaszky
Dear Emilia,

Thank you so much for taking the time to write! Gömör county is really quite close to Szépes county, where my Répászky ancestors are originally from. From there they moved to Kosice, and then eventually some of them found their way to the United States.

On another ancestral line, my great-great-grandfather's sister married into the Kiszely family who owned a large french pastry shop in Budapest. If you happen to come across a mention of such a place, I'd be grateful if you could let me know!

I hope to keep tracing my Répászky roots back as far as I can, and it is quite possible that either yours will lead back to Szépes or mine will lead back to Gömör, and so we should keep in touch. I promise to let you know if I come across anything on the Répászky family name in the places you mentioned. In the mean time, you can learn a little bit more about my family when it was in Kosice by searching for Repaszky at http://www.cemetery.sk/

Thank you again for writing. Do write back soon if you can!

Minden jót!

James (not Zemling!)

jfmcgrat: Repaszky family of Kosice
Thank you for writing! It sounds like we are related! I recently had an excellent genealogical researcher based in Kosice take digital photographs of books from the mid-19th century written by Jozsef Repaszky (the brother of Michael, the famous architect), who was the dean of Kosice cathedral for a period. Since my own profession is as a university religion professor, I am hoping I will be able to do some research and perhaps write a book about him.

I would love to hear more about any family stories and other information your side of the family may be able to share, and I'm happy to share whatever information I have (I have traced part of the family tree back to the 18th century). I'll try uploading a file, and hopefully we can also exchange some more messages (either on or off list, whichever you prefer).

Best wishes, and many thanks for writing!

James McGrath
