Mark Hoferitza: First Names
What is the relationship between the name Mihaly and Milka? Is one a diminutive of the other?

Also, what is the Slovak name of Kojso in Szepes?

Also, I've heard that women would use their maiden name when travelling. If they came through Ellis Island or any other entry point with children, would the children use the maiden name as well?

Thanks,
Mark Hoferitza

Zlatica : Re: First Names
Mark,

Mihaly (Magyar) is a male form of Michal (Slovak).
Milka is a diminutive female form for Ludmila.

What do you mean : Slovak name of Kojso in Szepes? :
The surname is KOJS'O and Szepes is in Magyar and in Slovak Spis.

Mark Hoferitza: Place Name
I sent a message yesterday and I think I was unclear in what I was asking. I found a town name in the Ellis Island index. It is Kojso, Hungary. Is this town in Slovakia?
Thanks,
Mark

I am looking for information on relatives of my wife's paternal grandfather, Sophie (Zissl Gitl) Simkovics who emigrated from NAgy Berezna (Velke Berezna) to Detroit, Michigan around 1910.

Danziger: Re: Simkovics
I have much information on Sophie Simkovics (now Simkovitz) in Detroit. She married Elek Harry Sudelmitzky. Elek changed his surname to Cohen and then to Cern.

I have information on some of Sophie's siblings but little on her parents. I would appreciate an exchange of information.
