I am trying to find out my great grandmothers maiden name.
She was married to Frank Soltesz and had 7 children to my knowledge. Mary (my grandmother), Elizabeth, Helen, Balasz, Bert,Frank and John. My grandmothers place of birth says Austria/Hungary and she was born March 30, 1888. She ended up in Ashtabula, Ohio. Any info would be appreciated.

What US documents have you located on your ancestor?
Was she naturalized citizen? Did she have social security numbers? http://ssdi.rootsweb.com
If she married in US than a state marriage application and church marriage record should have her place of birth.

2 ZURBOLAs that came thru Ellis Island were from Lelos/Leletz/Lelesz, now Leles, Slovak Republic.
ZURBOLA and VILAGI still in Leles's phone book.

The documents I have for my grandmother Mary(Soltesz)Vilagi are her death certificate which list Austria/Hungary as her birthplace and her mothers Maiden name says unknown??? She does have a ss# and I have her marriage license in the state of Ohio with her last name spelled differntly (Soltis)
in Jefferson, Ohio on October 12, 1912. So there is a site I can look up her marriage license?? and it should tell me her mothers name and place of birth?? Thanks for your help

Not sure to whom you addressed the reply but I will reply to it.
You might want to request her SS-5Form. It should give you her place of birth and parents names.
SOLTISZ or SOLTESZ it just might be in pronounciation.
There were SOLTISZ,SOLTIS, SOLTES and SOLTESZ arriving thru www.ellisislandrecords.org

Thanks for the info, I have gone to there site and requested copies of 4 people of interest the 2 you told me about and then Elizabeth Soltesz who might be Franks wife.Which that is who I'm trying to find out who she was and what her maiden name was. I'm anxiously awaiting.

Did you find your ancestors on 1930 census? This is the census that would say Na-naturalized, Al-alien or Pa-first paper. Whichever it is you, you need to follow up on the documents as her petition will have her place of birth. The church records are indexed by a village and then by religion. Family went to family in the beginning of arriving to America.

Wow! You are like a walking encyclopedia for genealogy.This forum is awesome. 1st Thank you for the info on the ss-5 form, never new you could do that.The info you talked about from the 1930 census is that something I can access free or is that through ancestory.com? I belonged in 2004 but was so new to it I was overwelmed by realizing 1st names were in hungarian and not american. It was a learning experience then I boxed up my info till now but have always been very interested. I have so many questions and so much to learn.
My parents were related and in 2006 at the age of 48 I finally found out how through a Hungarian woman I had met that turned out to be my dads 1st cousin, he never knew existed.I'll stop here cause I could go on and on,Sincere Thanks

Unfortunately, the 1930 census is thru Ancestry for a fee. I do not have a paid subscription. You might want to go to your local library to view the census. You might also want to check out http://genforum.com www.ancestry.com/community for your surnames.

Hello, Tud kutatási információjuk Soltész Mária? Õ jött át Ellis Island 1913-ban a 44 évesen, és rátette a születési dátum körüli 1869. Az utas felvétel mondja Özvegy .. tudsz adni nekem minden info a férje? Utolsó tartózkodási helye Seles, amit véleményem szerint Leles. Gyermekei voltak Mária, Erzsébet, Bertalan Balázs és Ilon ...
