	Anne Sprentz: Sprencz/Princz My ggrandfather Mihaly Sprencz/Princz was born in Satoraljaujhely, Zemplin Megye in 1879. His brother Jozsef was born 1866 in Hummene, according to his grandson. My ggrandfather used several different spellings, but the Ellis Island manifest has him as Sprencz, which I think was the original name, or the spelling they used in Hungary. It's been spelled Sprencz, Sprentz, Sprintz, Princz, Printz, Prince, etc on several different documents. THere is also a Gyorgy Sprencz who came to the US in 1899, and who's last residence was Satoraljaujhely. According the the Ellis Island manifest, he was born in 1873. I am not sure if this is a brother to my Sprencz/Princz's or not, but fairly certain it's a relative. Kedves Ann, Az e-mail cím leírásából arra következtettem,hogy Ön tud magyarul, ha nem ,angolul levelezhetünk.Tóth Andrea vagyok Budapestről,49 éves és tanár.Hugommal együtt kb. 1 éve kutatjuk a családunkat.Nagyapánk Spencz Henrik Budapesten született 1880-ban. Szülei Galiciából ,Brzeskoból és Przemyslből érkeztek ide ,pontosan nem tudjuk mikor.Az WEllis Island adtbázisban én is megtaláltam az Ön által említett József Spenczet, nem Sprencz hanem Spencz írásmóddal! Így azonos a mi családnevünkkel.Ha a térképet nézzük,Galiciávól Budapestre az út egyenesen észak Magyarországon át vezet, Sárospatak ,Hosszulaz, Homonna teljesen beleillik az útvonalba. Tud részleteket arról,hogy az Ön ősei honnan jöttek,mióta éltek ott és a névforma Spencz vagy Srencz ? Várom válaszát. 	züszl: Spencz Thanks for your replay.I've been searching my grandfather's ancestors.His name was Spenz,spelled Spencz or Spentz ,as well.I found your ancestors on Ellis Islands homepage and Radix ,too. But as I read it was Spencz on the copy ,not Sprenz.My relatives came from Galicia to Budapest abt. 1860 or 70s. Hosszulaz is on the route,so maybe there's any connection between themPlease, write me if you can have some infos. Thank you in advance. I noticed that there are 2 Toths that lived in Sarospatak at the same time as 2 Sprencz' lived there (1891?). You questioned the spelling of Sprencz; in the Hungarian papers, our family name was spelled "Sprencz;" in the Slovak/Carpatho-Rus' (Ruthenian) spelling that our family used, it was spelled "Princz." My "Sprentz/Sprencz/Princz/Printz" family emigrated to the USA from Homenna/Humenne, then in Zemplin megye, Hungary, now in Slovakia. It's only a short train ride from Satoralja-Ujhely to Humenne, and Hosszu-laz is only a few kilometers from Satoralja-Uhely. I understand that Hosszu-laz was one of the "German" towns in Hungary, and that may link the "Sprentz" and "Printz" families of Moselle and the Saar; apparently the family was known as "Printz" on the west of the Rhine, and "Sprentz" on the east, but that wasn't hard-and-fast, either. I'm told that they "were" emigrated to Hungary by Emperor Josef II in 1789 or thereabouts, and given a plot of land, a house, and a cow in return for having Roman Catholics to keep back the Swedes and Poles from taking over that area.		2007/10/05, 03:20:37 #: 200710269 válasz erreszerkesztés moderálandó? profil
