szu(c)hovszky[canada]: any others Szuchovszkys out there?
I live in Canada. Szuchovszky is my formal surname. However, my father changed the spelling to Szuhovszky when he arrived in Canada. Let me know if we are related. I'd enjoy hearing from you very much.

Not SZUCHOVSZKY or SUCHOVSKY but I still can help some.

You need to locate a precise name of a town in order to proceed with the research.
A spelling Suchovsky exists in Slovak Republic's phone book.
www.zoznamst.sk
Take a look in Ellis Island website.
1 SUCHOVSZKY, 11 SUCHOVSKY, 3 SUCHOFSKY, 4 SZUCHOVSKY.

They would have spoken Magyar and be Magyar but the surname has a Slavic roots.
The Ellis Island is in English. I was talking about the Zoznam / phone site for Slovak Republic.
Most of the Suchovsky and all the other spellings were from Miava / Myjava, Slovak Republic and Broczke/ Brodske, Slovak Republic.

Hi Zlatica,

What type of Slavic roots/country do you think it could be, if not Magyar? Polish...Russian maybe?

I will look for Suchovskys at the phone site again. thanks again.

The SKY ending suggest Slovak and SKI Polish.
In any case, best to locate a name of a town in order to proceed with the research in correct country.
The Hungary's phone site is listing : SZUCHOVSZKY
www.matav.hu/english/index.html
The LDS-Mormons (Family History Center)have filmed the church records but you need the name of a village and religious orientation of your ancestor to order the films.
What you have? I mean a name of a town. To be Polish name the spelling would be SZUCHOWSKI.

szuchowszky austria: there is another one
hello at all,

my name is oliver szuchowszky and i live in vienna. a few days ago my grandfather (who was born in vienna in 1917) died and i had the possibility to read a quite detailed autobiography which he wrote in 1987.

i can't really say much about the roots of the surname "szuchowszky", only that is very likely polish.

perhaps you can contact me (oliver_sz -k-u-k-a-c- hotmail -p-o-n-t- com) to find out whether there are any family relations.

cheers, oliver

As far as I know, Szuchovszky is a polish name. The Szuchovszky family fleed from Poland after, that Austria (Habsburgs) and Russia parceled 3th time Poland and Poland stopped to exist. This noble family had lands near Krakow.

HI! I am Endre Szuchovszky from Hungary. I am really surprised that there are so many Szuchovszkys all around the world. My grandfather started to investigate the whole story of my family but he couldn't finish it, and nobody continued it after his death, but as far as I know there is only one family who uses exactly the same spelling for this name.(at least in Hungary) Unfortunately I did not know about this website before, but i still hope that i'll hear from you in the future.

hi Wil! My e-mail address should work (szendre -k-u-k-a-c- eg-solver.hu) -p-o-n-t- It is available all the time. Can you send me yours? So, I think I have found something about the family history. My grandpa had several brothers and I know about one for sure who moved to Canada... This weekend I will get the whole family tree (it was a birthday present for my father from his sister)but maybe it is not complete. Anyway, I will scan it and will send it to everybody who is interested in this matter. Maybe it is easier if all of you send me your e-mail addresses, than upload it to this page. Hear from you soon! Regards, Endre

Jackie: suchofsky out there?
My Grandfather was Frank Suchofsky. He had a brother Albert. They immigrated to USA in the beginning of 1900 from Bratislave to Germany and then to USA. They were, I think, from the Brocke area. Any info out there?

Jackie: Re: SUCHOVSKY
I can't remember if we had contact yet. However, I was reviewing a hard to read document for my grandfather's brother Albert. It looks like he had some contact in Michigan. Initially, both brothers (my grandfather Franz/Frank Suchofsky/Suchovsky went to Pennsylvania to work in the mines. subsequently, he went to either Michigan or Minnesota to work in the lumber industry. Like to hear from you---maybe I did already---can't remember. Thanks again and sorry if I am repeating my quest in your direction. Jackie,in Alaska.

Thanks for you response. I have little information about my grandfather Frank Suchofsky. I know for sure that is the way he spelled his name on his entrance forms to the USA; furthermore, if you look up the name on Goggle, you will find his patent with that spelling. I believe he was born in Brodski, Czechoslovakia--maybe September 11, 1869. I believe he had a brother, Albert. Frank's immigration data says he went to Olyphant, Pa to be with his brother Albert. Their father's name might have been Ignatz and mother Ann, with brothers, Johan and Karl: see 1869 Hungarian Census. What do you think? Jackie in Alaska
