| Emmornan: Re: surnames | | My birth name was Tolmazin. My father and grandfather were born in Mogilev-Podolsk, on the Ukrainian side of the Dniester. In his diary my father, may he lie in peace, wrote that his last name most probably originated in a little town or village by the name of Talmazin. He did not indicate where this place was. He did have relatives in Kishinev. So, I assume that Talmazin may have been in Moldova. Prior to the Internet age, I did not know anybody with this name, other than one uncle in Israel. My father left Russia in 1922 to Palestine with his brother. I know he left behind two brothers and two sisters. I assume that Talmazan and Tolmazin are of the same origin.
