Zlatica:

Thanks for your help.

My Grandmother Timon was Roman Catholic as far as I know, but do you think Timon might be a Jewish name?

Zlatica : Re: Grandmother
Your welcome.

I really do not know how to answer your question. Do you suspect that she might have been Jewish in old country? If she was, why not practice the same belief in the new country? There are surname that are Christian as well as Jewish. All I know that there are surnames that are Christian as well as Jewish. Maybe checking www.jewishgen.org for the surname provide some answers. The Paskova church records are the way to go.

Dear Friends:

I have been informed that my Great Uncle Josef Timon came from Taskahaza which is now Taskova in Slovak Republic (?)

Most Ellis Island Passenger Manifests are 2 pages long and the second page of Uncle Josef's record is from another ship's Manifest which shows Tongue as Hebr Arg (Hebrew Argot- Yiddish) I have asked the Ellis Island Foundation to look into the error, but have not heard from them.

Did you look into www.iabsi.com/gen/public for research in Slovakia/Slovak Republic? Did you post on Slovak Republic/Slovakia sites like I suggested before?
Paskahaza, Passkahaza, Paschkahasa, Gomork megye, Hungary now Paskova, Gemer region, Slovak Republic
http://mapy.atlas.sk
www.jewishgen.org/ShtetlSeeker/loctown.htm
You might want to look into Paskova's church records in LDS-Mormons (Family History Center).
Village Paskova falls into area code /UTO 058 of www.zoznamst.sk

Josef TIMON arr. in 1901 was going to brother-in-law L. PIATKA Braddock Pa.
Zsuzsenna TIMON was from Bodofalu going to brother in NY
Are those your ancestors?
Found PIATKOVA (Ova is a female ending) in area code/UTO 058 in Revuca's phone book.

I found my Grandmother's Ellis Island Manifest under
Zsusanna Temon arr Mar 6, 1907 on the Kroonland.

Are the Church records from Markaz, Hung and Paskova, for example, available on line from a Subscription Service or do I need to get Indices and Microfilms from the LDS or others?

Thanks,
Monte

Marian_Rusnak: Re: L. PIATKA
Paskahaza / Paskova
- my grandmother lived in the village. My mother grew up there. I spent many summers as a child there.
Piatko
- used to be our neighbour cross street. Visited my mother regarding family trees years ago.

My mother could know about people and descendants, if anybody is interested. She will also be in USA, in Washington, during summer.
