rtvorik: Tvorik Family Research
Desire contact with anyone who can assist me in researching our family background. Have been in contact with relatives in Poland, Slovakia, and Czech Republic. Name is spelled TWORZYK in Poland. I decend from Maytas Tvorik in what was Also Lipnicza now Lipnica Weilka Poland. Other Tvoriks are in Bratislava, Slovakia and near Prague, Czech Republic.

Have information indicating Tvorik family was previously from surname Joannes SKOCSIK. Desire information how name was changed. Anyone interested please write. I live at Lansing Michigan USA

rtvorik,

Is it possible that there were several families with the surname Tvorik / Tworzyk and so some of the families used an Alias? Another possibility is each language having different alphabet letters and thus different pronounciation?
The SK's phone site is listing a surname SKOC'IK / Skocsik (Magyar / Hungarian spelling).

Not related to any of your surnames.

I am intregued by the idea of alias being used. Is that simiar to AKA (also known as)? I do not understand why a person would use another family surname.
Recently I obtained DNA from two Skocsik men and neither has any match to me.
If you have thoughts on this please advise.

Rtvorik

I am not an authority to give you any thoughts on the subject. All I know is that if there were 4 families with a same name, whether related by blood or not, they used an alias or a nickname to differentiate among themselves. Sometimes it was a name of a location, a family female name. Bill Tarkulich'w site www.iabsi.com/gen/public should have something on the subject.
In 1990 census of names there were 28 TWORZYKs in Poland. No SKOCSIKs at all. www.herby.com.pl/herby in Polish and only distribution.
I see that few TVORIKs and SKOCSIKs came thru Ellis Island.
SKOCSIKs were from Szepessumeg nka Smizany, Slovak Republic. Did not find Skocik in Smizany or in area code 053 of SK's phone book. www.zoznamst.sk Which might not mean anything.
Did find a SKOC^IK in Hlohovec's phone book, area code 033.
