Leslie: Urinyi
My husband and his brother (and of course all the kids) are the only Urinyi's we have ever come across here in the USA. We know my husband's father and mother came to the USA, not sure when, but his mother went back to Fglo, with her two children and didn't return to the USA until the children where 7 and 8 (husband's father and aunt), I think around 1908. I know their names are listed on a manifest of the Kaiser Wilhelm II at Ellis Island, and they are listed as US Citizens returning the the USA. I would be interesed in learning about other Urinyis, such as the one listed in the crafts book on this site, can I learn more about that name, was he a painter or paint restorer...he could have been my husband's grandfather.

Is it possible that the Fglo is actually an IGLO which was the old name for Spisska Nova Ves which is in Slovak Republic. This town, Iglo falls into the old Szepes megye / Spis region.

On the EI manifest they have that they left parents/grandparents: Stf. (maybe Stefan)Gyurske, 125 (a house number) in Deakferencz, Iglo?, Hungary.

The Hungarian phone site is listing a surname URINE, URING and JURINYI.

Could the name actually be a JURINYI? As you might known the U in English gives the JU sound in other languages.
There was a Margit Jurinyi that passed thru Ellis Island. She is from Likier, Cz.Slov. now Slovak Republic.

The town of Poprad, which is in the Spis region, phone book is listing JURINYI.

The LDS-Mormons (Family History Center) have filmed the church records of SK (if it turns out that it is Iglo) you can order the films and gather ancestral information.

Rajuna: Re: Urinyi
Hello,
I've come across the Urinyi surname in a couple of my family documents.
A Robert Urinyi is listed as one of the witnesses on my great-grand parents marraige record. This was 1909 in NYC.
Also, I've found my great-grand father's brothers on the EllisIsland Manifests, coming from Iglo and going to stay with a Robert Urinyi on 84th or 87th St. in NYC.
My great-grandfather was Albert Buchstabirer.

Please email me to compare notes!

Martin Awisus: Re: Urinyi
I am looking for James Urinyi from N.Y.C. who grew up somewhere in New Jersey. I have not heard of him for years and I would like to get in touch. Do you know him.
He is half Vietnamese and was adopted by a family with the last name Urinyi.
