clytle

The village of Nagyrakocz is in Ugocsa megye and now called Velikyi Rakovets.
63 people from village Nagyrakocz came thru Ellis Island but no Volosin among them.
Surname VOLOS'IN lists in Slovak Republic's phone book www.zoznamst.sk
A first name translation website might be of some help for correct spelling of a name: www.fam.aust.com/topolcsany/names
The spelling Basilius seems Latin for Basil. Were your ancestors Greek Catholic or Roman Catholic?

Thanks for the reply. I am not too familiar with the various divisions of the Catholic church but I believe my mother refered to it as "Russian Orthodox."
What country is Velikyi Rakovets in?

Hi,
I'm from the US. I'm searching for records regarding Peter Bukovecky born in Velikiy Rakovec in 1891. He father was John Bukovecky and his mother was Annastatia Polak. They were Greek Catholic. My grandfather Peter came to the US but left behind other siblings. I am searching for information about Joh and Annastatia and their children. can anyone help me. The document that I have is signed by a rector named Romza.

JGalovic: Re: Bukovecky
not sure this will help but here goes...my grandmother is listed as coming thru ellis island on December 6 1912 on the Carpathia. She is listed as Anna Szanka from Kis Rakocz, but her real maiden name was Salko or Savko. Kis Rakocz is a short distance, a couple of miles, from Nagy Rakocz. Nagy Rakocz is the Hungarian name for Velikiy Rakovec. On the same ship, line 13, is a Michael Polyak from Nagy Rakocz. Both were going to Wharton NJ. His family settled in Mt Hope NJ, and i knew some of his decendants. There is probably a good chance that he was related to your Annastatia. he was listed as 44 years old in 1912 which would put his birth around the year 1868

JGalovic: Re: Volosin - Nagy-Rakocz Sardik
Hello. I did a search on The Ellis Island website for Volosin. And found a Janos Volosin listed on a manifest for Sept 9, 1906 on the Carpathia departing out of Flume. It lists the place of last residence as "Nagyzakocr", but I went to the original ship manifest, line 26, and that sure looks like Nagy Rakocz to me. He was going to Wilkes Barre, PA. Two lines down was a Peter Bilak from the same village going to the same place.
