|Zlatica : Re: szlapak|
In 1990 Poland's census only 2 SZLAPAKs registered.
You need to locate a name of a town in order to proceed with the research which you start with yourself and go backwards till you come upon the ancestor that was from the "old country".
17 SZLAPAKs and 5 SZANTOIs passed thru Ellis Island to America. You might want to take a look at those manifests.
how may i take a look of those who came to US?

go to www.ellisislandrecords.org
you do need to register with a password but no money is involved in doing that.

|Hello, not sure if you will ever see this but my family has quite a few Szlapak's in the US. My Grandparents, the late Roman, survived by Anna Szlapak came to the US in the 1940's. They had seven children, two sons who in turn each had three boys; all carrying the name Szlapak. There are other cousins, children of the daughters who do not carry the name but are related nonetheless. My grandparents came from the Ukraine, spent time in Germany (not very pleasant) and settled in Buffalo, NY where most of the family resides. However my brother Mike is in Columbus, Ohio and I just moved to Denver, Colorado. Send me an e-mail at szlapak -k-u-k-a-c- hotmail -p-o-n-t- com is you'd like to discuss further.|

You might want to post on Poland's Ancestry and Genforum, if you have not already. Also try www.jewishgen.org
distribution of a surname in Poland
to hear pronounciation http://say.expressivo.com
If you know a village than look in Poland's phone site for your surname www.ksiazka-telefoniczna.com but because of privacy law, no full address.
